Digital Design Empowers the Development of Solid Wood Furniture

Digital 3D modeling and mechanical virtual simulation technologies are fully applied in the R&D of solid wood furniture, greatly shortening the development cycle of new solid wood dining tables and whole-house matching products, reducing timber loss from physical sampling and improving style iteration efficiency. In the past, the development process of new solid wood products was cumbersome. After designers drew hand-painted drawings, physical wood samples needed to be made, with repeated adjustments of size, radian and load-bearing structure. A new solid wood dining table required at least three physical samples, consuming a large amount of solid wood raw materials and labor hours.

Now R&D staff complete the whole design process with digital software: input wood density and hardness parameters to build 3D models of tables and chairs. The system automatically calculates mortise stress, tabletop load capacity and wood shrinkage deformation data, simulating wear during long-term use and deformation caused by temperature and humidity changes to optimize structural defects in advance. After the virtual simulation confirms the qualified plan, only one accurate physical sample is needed before mass production. The new product R&D cycle is cut by 40%, and timber loss from sampling is reduced by more than 60%.

Digital design also supports rapid customized styles. Consumers can adjust the size of solid wood dining tables, wood grain color and dining chair backrest shape online, and the system generates visual 3D renderings in real time to preview the placement effect intuitively, lowering offline return and exchange rates. Digital transformation injects innovative momentum into the solid wood furniture industry. Small and medium-sized processing factories do not need to hire senior hand-painted designers with high salaries, and can quickly launch new solid wood dining sets suitable for the market relying on standardized design software, enriching market product choices and accelerating the industry’s product update speed.
